This article cover the best high wattage light bulbs.

Normally the light bulbs we have in our home are 40W, 60W or 100W equivalents. Though sometimes you want a brighter bulbs, whether for reading (see our article on a good wattage for reading) or to illuminate a large area such as a basement or garage. We have looked into the best bulbs available and listed them by wattage. Additionally we have included halogen, spotlight and E12 candelabra bulbs.

Our selections are based on a number of criteria:

  • Energy Star certified, whether the bulbs has met strict energy efficiency criteria set by the EPA
  • Lifetime and length of warranty, as these provide a measure of quality

150 Watts – Philips LED

Philips are the number one supplier of light bulbs in Europe and are known for their reliable, if somewhat expensive light bulbs. To illustrate, this bulb, at around $10, is not the cheapest but it is rated to last 15,000 hours and comes with a 5 year warrant. We liked the frosted glass as high wattage bulbs are by their nature bright and the frosting help with any glare. The bulb has a standard E26 base.

These cheaper bulbs are available on Amazon. And while the manufacturer, Kindeep, is not one we have heard of before, the online reviews for these bulb are overwhelmingly positive. The manufacturer’s claim that these bulbs will last 27 years is not backed up by anything more the minimum 1-year warranty. But if you are looking for an affordable 150W bulbs then these are a good option for you.

200 Watt – GE Ultra Bright

GE, who have been making light bulbs since 1892, make a very wide selection of light bulbs including the ultra bright range. In addition to the 200W bulb the range also includes a 100W E12 candelabra as well as 150W, 250W and 300W bulbs. While this 200W light bulb is not cheap at $21 it is rated to last 15,000 hours and is backed by a 5 year warranty. Also, it can be used outdoors and is wet rated. Unlike most GE bulbs it is not dimmable.

They focus on offering innovative and environmentally products including high-lumen bulbs, grow lights, work lights and security lights. This 300W, 5000 lumen light bulbs has overwhelmingly positive reviews, a 3 year warranty and a suggested lifetime of 22 years. As can be seen it is quite a big bulb so check you have clearance before spending the $20.

Corn cob bulbs have multiple LEDs embedded all around the outer surface of the bulb. These corn cob bulbs are also available in 300W, 400W, 750W and 1000W. It comes with a E39 to E26 base adapter.

E12 Candelabra – Gezee 120W Corn Cob

These light bulbs have the smaller E12 fitting (sometimes called candelabra). Normally these smaller bulbs do not come in a high-wattage. These ones from Gezee are corn cob bulbs, which means they have multiple LEDs embedded around the bulb. They are available on Amazon and cost a very reasonable $5.40. Like a lot of light bulbs from online suppliers they claim a very long lifetime which is not backed by a longer than basic warranty. If you really need a high wattage E12 bulb they are worth a try.

Honeywell are a well established company who make a wide range of electric items. This is an innovative design that has three light panels which fold to manually aim the light in the direction required.The manufacturer claims an amazing 45 year lifetime and provides a 5 year warranty. It fits into a standard E26 socket. Honeywell say that the 3000 lumens output is equivalent of 300W though it is really closer to 200W. Finally, the reviews are very good and the spotlight would work well in a garage or basement or covered outdoor area.

Interestingly Feit claim to maintain an inventory of 100,000,000 bulbs in their automated distribution center in Los Angeles. All the other bulbs on this list are LEDs. However, sometimes you need a bulb that is compatible with the fittings you have in your house. These double-ended halogen bulbs are commonly used in security lighting, work lights, floor lamps and flood lamps. The clear quartz bulbs offer soft white light. Note that because they are halogens they use a lot of power and have a relatively short lifetime, though they are relatively cheap at $2.50 each.
