7 Of The Best Corn Cob Light Bulbs

Pinegreen 500W Corn Cob Light Bulb

Introduction

Hi there and welcome to this review of what is the best corn cob LED bulb to buy.

So what are Corn Cob light bulbs? Firstly they are LED light bulbs. Being that the kernel part of the corn is actually LED chips which emit light. So, no incandescents, halogens or CFLs.

Chips give out light

As can be seen on the bulb above, there are lots of little yellow squares. This are the LED chip. On its own the chip gives off a yellow light. However, the chips in a corn cob bulb are coated with phosphor. In effect changing the yellow light to white.

In general, because they contain lots of LEDs corn cob bulbs are bright. Also, the LED chips are embedded around the body of the bulb normally giving 360 degree illumination.

Ballast and Corn Cob Bulbs

Another key point, is that some older high intensity discharge fixtures bulbs use internal electronics called ballast. This ballast provides the higher starting voltages and currents these bulbs needs.

Newer LED bulbs use much lower current and don’t need the ballast. So, if you are replacing old HID bulbs it is worth checking your current set-up. And talking to your local electrician. Please, be safe. High current levels can kill or injure you.

Yansun Technology Inc has its lighting factory in China. and distribution based in Walnut, California. They have been producing light bulbs for more than 12 years, and specialize in residential, commercial and industrial LED lighting.

To point out a couple of things about this bulb. Firstly it comes with a G9 base. So check this is compatible with your fixture. Second, it produces 450 lumens of bright daylight light. Finally it is rated to last 30,000 hours. Though this is not backed up with an extended guarantee.

In summary an interesting bulb. Good for desk lamps, chandeliers, wall scones, kitchen pendants and bathroom vanities. Somewhere that needs 360 degree light.

120 Watt – Gezee E12 Candelabra

Gezee 120W light bulb

Gezee is another manufacture that is new to me. However there are not a lot of candelabra corn cob bulbs. So I thought it would be good to include one in this LED review.

Firstly, to point out that E12 is the smaller screw base, often referred to as candelabra.

Generally these smaller bulbs do not come in a high lumen option. These ones produce 1500 lumens, which is a lot. Also they are available from Amazon and cost a very reasonable $5.40. Like a lot of light bulbs from online suppliers they claim a very long lifetime which is not backed by a longer than basic warranty. If you really need a very bright, small screw bulb they are worth a try.

Orein Corn Cob 250W Light Bulbs

Firstly the manufacturer claims this is a 250 watt replacement bulb. However it use 54 watts and produces 7020 lumens. Which, in my book makes it more of a 500 watt replacement.

Orein themselves, have more than twenty years’ experience in LED technology and sales. With their base being in is Shenzhen, China.

So, this is one super-bright bulb. Producing 7020 lumens of daylight temperature light. Considering that a normal 60 watt bulb puts out around 600 lumens, this is a lot.

Different from the other corn cob bulbs in this review this one comes with an enclosing dome. Hidden under the dome are 106 LEDs. Owing to this set-up the bulb provided a 220 degree beam. Tighter than normal corn cobs. As a result giving more downlight.

Firstly this is a bright bulb. That is 10,000 lumens of daylight temperature light. All for 95 watts of power. Think about that for a moment. I have an old 100 watt light bulb in the drawer. It puts out about 800 lumens.

So if you have something big to light up. For example a garage, workshop or basement. And you need a lot of light in all areas then this bulb is for you.

In summary a lot of light for $40 with a suggested lifetime of 30,000 hours and a 2 year warranty.
